Eastern Visayas mayors among 35 execs involved in illegal drug trade?

Tacloban City – Is it true that at least a couple of mayors from Eastern Visayas are among the list of35 local executives allegedly involved in illegal drug trade as told by President-elect Rodrigo Duterte to lawmakers recently?

Duterte made the announcement to a group of lawmakers in Malacañang of the South as he talked to them about his campaign against crime. He considers the drug problem in the country as “clear and present danger.”

The next president did not elaborate however on the list as to who the local execs are and what he intends to do to them on his crackdown on illegal drugs.

The allegations came as Chief Superintendent Edwin Villacorte, Director of Police Regional Office 8, ordered his commanders to rid their ranks involved in illegal drug trade.

This, after a police officer in Leyte was caught red-handed in Tacloban City carrying with him 6 sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” in a buy-bust operation.

“I ordered the identification and arrest of police officers involved in the illegal drug trade in the community following reports of their involvement in the drug trade,” Villacorte said. “We are now focusing on internal cleansing of drug peddlers and coddlers within the PNP. Anyone caught involved in illegal drugs in any other ways will face criminal and administrative case."

The PNP however remains mum on allegations that some local chief executives are involved in drug trade.

Meanwhile, Duterte is serious in his plan to restore death penalty in the country informing the members of the 17th Congress that it is one of his priorities.
