Governor Jose L. Ong said that the summit reflects the seriousness of the province to fight narcotic menace besetting not only Northern Samar but the whole country as a whole.

Long before the government's serious drive to minimize if not eradicate drug proliferation in the country, the provincial government of Northern Samar has been at the forefront in the campaign against illegal drugs, hence, the successful conduct of the 1st Drug Summit in 2014.

The activity will serve as a reinforcement to the “Oplan Tokhang” being implemented nationwide. In a report presented by the Provincial Information Officer during the joint Provincial Development Council and PAMANA Provincial Management Team meeting, data shows that in 2015, 23 out of 24 towns are infiltrated, 106 individuals arrested and 182 anti-drug cases were filed from 2013-2015.

Governor Ong vowed to pursue the campaign against illegal drugs, thus, he called the different stakeholders for a second anti-drugs summit which is set on August 25, 2016 and enjoined Local Government Units to replicate the same in their respective area. (Aileen Diaz/PIA-Northern Samar)
