Ex-PNP member killed, 3 officers wounded in anti-drug operation

Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Campetic, Palo, Leyte – A former police officer allegedly involved in illegal drug trade was killed in a police operation recently in Sogod, Southern Leyte.

 The suspect, ex-PNP member PO1 Emmanuel Salon, 39 years old, was listed in the PNP Drug Watch list in Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8) and is classified as High Value Target (HVT) of the Regional Anti-Drug (RAID) focus team. 

The police operatives were in the middle of a buy-bust operation when Salon noticed the presence of PO2 Antonio Dador Jr, and immediately drew his .9mm pistol hitting the later at his right leg prompting the operatives to return fire. 

Based on the police report, Salon ran inside his house and the shootout ensued hitting Police Senior Inspector J-Rale Paalisbo in his right hand while PO3 Jerome G Mendoza was also hit in his right middle finger. 

The suspect was killed inside the comfort room during the shootout. Recovered in the scene are 4 pcs small heat sealed; 8 pieces medium heat sealed and 1 large heat sealed plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be “shabu”. 

The SOCO team also recovered from the scene 24 pieces empty shell of various caliber, illegal drug paraphernalia, 5 pieces bullet fragment, 3 pieces slug, one unit caliber .38 revolver loaded with three fired cartridges and two live ammos and 1 unit caliber .9mm pistol marked Taurus with markings Philippine National Police with Serial Number TZE303593. The suspect was dismissed from the PNP service since August 6, 2015 due to an administrative case of Absence without Leave (AWOL). 

Inventory of seized items were witnessed Zone 1 Barangay Chairman Arsenio Z Padencio and Barangay Councilor Ronilo P Morta. 

The three wounded PNP personnel were brought to Sogod District Hospital for medical treatment and were subsequently transferred to RTR Hospital while the body of the suspect was brought to a funeral parlor in Sogod. 

Chief Superintendent Elmer Beltejar, PRO 8 Acting Regional Director, meanwhile awarded the wounded personnel with “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting.”
