JUST IN: Two (2) drug personalities are first casualties in Eastern Samar crackdown

Borongan City, Eastern Samar – The Eastern Samar Provincial Police Office (ESPPO) reported two fatalities in San Policarpo and Arteche towns relative to its heightened crackdown on illegal drugs in the province.

Two Hundred Ninety Five (295) drug personalities from different barangays of this municipality voluntarily surrendered themselves to San Policarpo MPS through this nationwide implementation of PNP Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign (PROJECT DOUBLE BARREL/OPLAN TOKHANG). Alexander Opeña Diga, tagged as top 7 in the drug watchlist of San Policarpo town was killed early morning of 9 July 2016 along the national highway in Brgy. Pangpang, San Policarpo, Eastern Samar. 

Based on police record, at about 3:00 AM, San Policarpo Municipal Police Station (MPS) received a call from Ariel Mengullo , Brgy. Chairman of Pangpang reporting a shooting incident in his village. 

SPO4 Arnel Jungaya led a team to the crime scene. Police identified Diga, 41, suspected pusher at rank 7 in its watchlist; a laborer and resident of Brgy. Binogawan. 

He was riding his motorcycle en route to Brgy. Japunan when he was shot by a still unidentified gunman. 

Diga sustained a gunshot wound on his head. Case investigator SPO2 Ronald Montallana said the body was brought to Diga's family in Brgy. Binogawan. 

Another drug suspect, a newly-surrendered user named as Leonard Pat Moscosa Bianes, 19, was found dead at the boundary of Barangays Buenavista and Carapdapan in Arteche town. 

Police record states that a texter identifying self as 'concerned citizen' sent the Arteche police a message about a dead body. SPO4 Prizino Camacho and his team hurried to the said site. Bianes' body sustained multiple gunshot wounds. 

He was identified by his friend Jessie Picardo Orque, caretaker of Binogawan Beach Resort. Police said Bianes has just surrendered yesterday under Oplan Tukhang. 

Recovered from the crime scene were 2 unfired bullets of a 9mm caliber pistol. 

Arteche police is now conducting a follow-up operation for possible identification of the perpetrator. 

Meanwhile, the ESPPO Oplan Tukhang now yields a total of 1,324 surrenderees as of July 9, 2016. (Daisy Belizar - DYES)
