The two-day activity held recently in Cebu City discussed the history of early childhood education in Hongkong and France, as an example, particularly the role of the kindergarten which is an essential step of the way to ensure students academe success while growing and emphasize their personality, Maasin City Social Welfare Aide Fe Nida Sy informed, one of the participants of the activity.

The activity’s theme dubbed as, “The role of Pre-School Teachers, school Administrators and Day Care Workers" in the implementation of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE).

She said that Kindergarten is a crucial phase in the process of learning as children discover and gradually introduce the basics of work in prep school and as the first step of the child is the process of learning.

Sy added that it is in kindergarten where they develop their oral language, which also include their writing skills, knowing numbers and learning to play.

There were 12 major mother tongues introduced during the seminar such as Iloko; Pangasinan; Kapampangan; Tagalog; Bikol; Waray; Cebuano; Hiligaynon; Merano; Chavacano; Maguindanaon; and Tausog.

The Mother Tongue-based Multilingual Education is using the learners’ first language as a bridge to learn the national language, which is Filipino, and the global language, (English), it was learned.

The Maasin City delegation was led by Maasin CSWD officer Fe Sta. Cruz. Among other attendees were representatives from Tagbilaran, Bohol; Limasawa, in Southern Leyte; and Cebu. (Rebecca G. Cadavos/PIA8-SoLeyte)
