Search for Outstanding Volunteers is on

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte —The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) regional office 8 has announced the acceptance of nominations for the nationwide Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) in the region until July 30, 2016.

The Search acknowledges the significant role of volunteers as indispensable partners of the government and the private sector in the development efforts to uplift the lives of the people especially the marginalized sector. 

NEDA regional director Bonifacio G. Uy said, the Search is open to individuals of Filipino citizenship; Filipino or local chapters of foreign/international non-profit organizations and Filipino or local chapters of foreign/international corporate organizations currently providing volunteer assistance in the country. 

Nominations are accepted for two categories such as National Outstanding Volunteer Award and Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award. 

A Special Award is also conferred to outstanding volunteers who do not qualify under the regular SOV categories. 

It can be recalled that in the 2014 Search for Outstanding Volunteers, the Leyte Center for Development Inc., an entry from Region 8 was chosen as regional winner by the 2014 SOV national steering committee under the organization-non profit category. 

The deadline for submission of nominations is July 30, 2016. Nomination forms are available at NEDA regional office 8 Government Center, Palo Leyte and downloadable from www.pnvsca.gov.ph and at http://nro8.neda.gov.ph/downloads. 

The duly filled-out nomination forms should be submitted to NEDA regional office 8. 

The Search for Outstanding Volunteer is conducted by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency(PNVSCA) and the National Volunteer Month Steering Committee, in cooperation with the Regional Search Committees chaired by NEDA, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the National Capital Region and the Regional Planning and Development Office in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
