War on Drugs: Army member arrested in drug operation

Tacloban City, Philippines – Police Chief Superintendent Elmer Cruz Beltejar, Acting Regional Director, Police Regional Office 8 said that his men has captured Cpl. Gerardo Domdom Y Langcuyan, a.k.a “Gerry”, 35 years old, married, Philippine Army member presently assigned at 87th IB, based at Brgy. Polangi, Calbiga, Samar and a resident of Zone 1, Paranas, Samar in a buy bust operation at about 2:25 A.M. of August 3, 2016 at Brgy. Polangi, Calbiga Samar. 

The joint police and army operation resulted in the apprehension of the suspect and confiscation from his possession and control of thirty-two (32) pieces heat sealed plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be “shabu”; drug paraphernalia; thirteen pieces aluminium strips; one piece pouch; one-unit cellular phone; one-unit motorcycle without plate no. 

The arrested person and the confiscated items were brought to Calbiga police station for documentation and disposition Beltejar has ordered a wide-ranging investigation to look into the alleged drug involvement of police officers as well as some members of Philippine Army. 

The apprehending team was composed of joint elements of Calbiga Police led by Police Senior Inspector Bobby B Montaño; Police Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) led by Police Chief Inspector Angelo C Pueblos; Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG) led by Police Senior Inspector Joselito T. Tabada; Paranas Police led by Police Chief Inspector Francisco A. Sumpo all of Samar Provincial Police Office; 2nd Regional Public Safety Manuever Companies (RPSMC) led by Police Senior Inspector Jessie C Mañas and 7th Infantry Battalion, PA led by 1st Lieutenant Randy C. Alunday in coordination with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency - 8 (PDEA8). 

Implicated individuals must be wary because this operation is just the start of continuing transformation and cleansing of the police and military ranks. 

The regional police chief further added that the PNP does not and will not tolerate any criminal offenders even if they are members of the military and the police. 

“Police officers and soldiers should be the one to ensure that the law is properly implemented and not the other way around,” he said. 

“The PNP will continue its revitalized campaign against illegal drugs through the intensive implementation of Project Double Barrel with close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and will strive hard to eliminate illegal drug trafficking and abuse in Region,” he continued 

The PNP meanwhile is calling on the public to continue to collaborate with them to ensure success of their operations.
