Ricardo Rosasena, Ceasar Tupaz and Dino Atigo, residents of Cataingan, Masbate, were rescued by Capul police after sending a distress signal while onboard a sinking fishing boat at about 9:30 A.M., Wednesday. “The police officers chanced upon the motor boat half submerged in the water on the verge of sinking.

They spotted a white cloth hanging on the mast of the boat, a distress signal of call for help,” the Northern Samar Provincial Police Office said in a report.

The group of policemen were onboard a passenger boat bound to Allen town when they saw the fishermen. The weather-beaten survivors revealed that they were on the course to Naval, Biliran from Masbate to deliver their catch for the day when their boat was battered with strong waves.

Sea water started filling their boat and they were drifted by the strong current near Capul Island. The survivors were brought to Allen District Hospital for medical interventions.

The state weather agency beforehand made public calls to take extra cautions as sea waters will be rough as Typhoon Maring makes landfall in Northern Luzon.

The weather disturbance caused massive floods and landslides in many parts of Metro Manila, Cavite and Quezon. (Bryan Azura)
