Vice Governor Marcelo Ferdinand Picardal is now Eastern Samar's acting governor.
Picardal started his post as the provincial government’s officer-in-charge on August 25.

As stipulated in the Local Government Code, the 2nd termer vice governor will already serve as governor in full capacity if the Nicart will not return for work in 30 days.

The acting governor, in a public statement, said that he will ensure the timely release of salaries to provincial employees. Included in his top priorities is the development of the tourism industry in the province.

He said there is so much tourism potential in Eastern Samar and it is about time to give priority to this.

Picardal is also keen on bringing progress to the agriculture sector given that the province remains lagging behind in terms of agricultural production despite being an agricultural province.

Picardal also spoke that he intends to make sure the provincial hospital has enough supply of medicines and should be accessible to poor patients.

He made assurance to the public that his assumption as acting governor will ensure the continuity of the programs and delivery of services undertaken by the Nicart administration.

Atty. Lionel Titong, Provincial Legal Officer and at the same time spokesperson of Gov. Nicart, said that Eastern Samareños will continue to be in good hands under the temporary leadership of Picardal.

He said that the capitol’s head of offices assured the acting governor their full support to Picardal.(Sinirangan NewsPlus)
